My story

Dear Visitor,

I’ve been a witch for more than two decades and I was a professor of cognitive neuroscience for 10 years before I left academia a few years ago. I realized, rather belatedly, that my scientific interests and my witchery were basically the same thing. Same decor (skulls, books, & bottles), same personal meaning (develop my strengths, be a good human, understand my place in the world), and similar problems to avoid (both can be appropriative and a bit smug about it). It turns out that integrating these two sides of myself was pretty easy. Almost like they were the same side.

I realized that the most meaning in my life was found in small things. Handmade soap. Talking to a neighbor. Volunteering my time in my community. Knitting. Watching plants grow.

So, I started Green Moon Witchery to share things that help you slow down, notice moments, and feel your human-ness. To live with intention.

Simple objects that you touch daily offer reminders to you intended to help you make meaning as you move through your day, which becomes your life. Soap is something you can reach for every time you wash your hands, every time you bathe. Handmade soap is special. It feels different on the skin and the skin responds. The herbs shape this experience from the cooling of peppermint to the soothing of calendula.

These reminders have helped me too amidst the busy, often hurting world around us. I want an oasis of meaning, but I don’t want to remove myself from the world, even though it’s hard out there. If we leave, it doesn’t get better.

With love,

Sarah
